Pt/Cu single-atom alloys as coke-resistant catalysts for efficient C-H activation.

چکیده
The recent availability of shale gas has led to a renewed interest in C-H bond activation as the first step towards the synthesis of fuels and fine chemicals. Heterogeneous catalysts based on Ni and Pt can perform this chemistry, but deactivate easily due to coke formation. Cu-based catalysts are not practical due to high C-H activation barriers, but their weaker binding to adsorbates offers resilience to coking. Using Pt/Cu single-atom alloys (SAAs), we examine C-H activation in a number of systems including methyl groups, methane and butane using a combination of simulations, surface science and catalysis studies. We find that Pt/Cu SAAs activate C-H bonds more efficiently than Cu, are stable for days under realistic operating conditions, and avoid the problem of coking typically encountered with Pt. Pt/Cu SAAs therefore offer a new approach to coke-resistant C-H activation chemistry, with the added economic benefit that the precious metal is diluted at the atomic limit.

Thermally Stable and Regenerable Platinum–Tin Clusters for Propane Dehydrogenation Prepared by Atom Trapping on Ceria
Ceria (CeO2 ) supports are unique in their ability to trap ionic platinum (Pt), providing exceptional stability for isolated single atoms of Pt. The reactivity and stability of single-atom Pt species was explored for the industrially important light alkane dehydrogenation reaction. The single-atom Pt/CeO2 catalysts are stable during propane dehydrogenation, but are not selective for propylene. ...

By means of first-principles calculations, the interaction of twelve different transition metal atoms (M 1⁄4 Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Ru, Rh, Pd, Ag, Os, Ir, Pt, and Au) of groups VIII–XI with phosphomolybdic acid (H3PMo12O40, PMA), a newly emerging medium for trapping transition metal atoms, has been systematically investigated. The M–PMA systems have very high stability with the binding energies of tr...
متن کاملCarbon Monoxide Poisoning Resistance and Structural Stability of Single Atom Alloys
Platinum group metals (PGMs) serve as highly active catalysts in a variety of heterogeneous chemical processes. Unfortunately, their high activity is accompanied by a high affinity for CO and thus, PGMs are susceptible to poisoning. Alloying PGMs with metals exhibiting lower affinity to CO could be an effective strategy toward preventing such poisoning. In this work, we use density functional t...
متن کاملGraphitic carbon nitride supported single-atom catalysts for efficient oxygen evolution reaction.
Based on DFT calculations, we propose a TM@CN hybrid structure, in which the single-atom transition metal (TM = Pt, Pd, Co, Ni, Cu) is supported by graphitic carbon nitride (g-CN), as a promising high-performance OER catalyst. Our work reveals the importance of local TM coordination in catalysts for the OER, which would lead to a new class of low-cost, durable and efficient OER catalysts.
متن کاملEffect of Pt on Zn-Free Cu-Al Catalysts for Methanol Steam Reforming to Produce Hydrogen
Steam reforming of methanol can be considered as an attractive reaction aiming at hydrogen production for PEM fuel cells. Although Cu/Al-contained catalysts are considerably evaluated in this reaction, further evaluation is essential to evaluate the impact of some promoters like Pt in order to find a comprehensively optimized catalyst. Pt promoter is employed with different methods in this ...
